By simply stopping the flow of government funds going into these clinics, woman can do with their bodies as they please, but out of their own pockets, rather than the pockets of the tax-payers. Currently, according to Congressional health-care bill defunds Planned Parenthood, about 43 percent of [Planned Parenthoods] budget close to $550 million comes from government grants and reimbursements, with Medicaid representing the vast majority of that money (par. 14). While Planned Parenthood provides more services than just abortion procedures, they are responsible for more than 300,000 abortions during the 2014-2015 fiscal year (par. 18). An abortion costs, at most, according to Emily at Planned Parenthood, $950 out of pocket. Theresa Fisher states, the procedure itself costs upwards of $3,000, leaving the other $2,050 to insurance or government assistance. (par. 1) Millions of dollars a year go to these clinics. Money that comes out of tax-payers pockets. The government also funds things such as our military, and schools. Things that, no matter who you are, benefit the country. Abortion clinics arent beneficial to everybody. Some may say they are the exact opposite of beneficial and take away the unborn fetus unalienable right to life, labeling abortion as unconstitutional. (par. 6) In 2017, the National Right to Life News pointed out that theres thousands of unethical abortions preformed where they remove intact, born-alive fetuses â€Å"often late-term in order to harvest their organs, without the use of proper procedural chemicals instead using a chemical â€Å"Digoxin†which is a round-about method to be documented as killing the fetus, without fully killing it, leaving its cardiac systems fully functional as to make them sellable (par. 1-8). R. Alta Charo explains the scientific benefits fetal tissue provides. He notes that the stem cells provide insight on the vacines for chickenpox, pol io, and rubella (par. 5). How necessary was it to use the stem cells of fetal tissue to reach these conclusions? Was/is there any other way to research these kinds of diseases? Perhaps victims of these diseases who consent their bodies to be donated to science could have done the same thing. Most vaccines are just a dead strain of the virus its preventing so your bodys immune system can recognize it and then learn to fight off the disease. Why was fetal stem cells necessary to do this research in the first place? The fetus cannot consent to this research like a fully developed human can, why should the mother consent to the fetus being removed from the womb prematurely, still alive for its organs to be harvested for research? It seems very barbaric. He does note that fetal tissue research has not persuaded woman to get abortions (par. 7), however the pure unethical procedure of how these fetuses were harvested can hardly be stomached. Selling fetal tissue on the underground market or to universities and research facilities, fetuses being removed from the womb prematurely†partially living†to do research and tests on, doesnt seem to be in the best interest of childrens health rights. It seems almost selfish to put the life of a child second to Reproductive Rights. There are numerous ways to prevent unintentional pregnancies, which is plenty compliant with Reproductive Rights. A baby is not a baby until it comes out (Ludlow 3). This is a common phrase among those who object to defunding Planned Parenthood, and it isnt until 24 weeks that even the Pro-Choicers start to feel unconfutable. A fetus has a heartbeat at 6 weeks. By 12 weeks it has limbs, fingers and little toes. At 16 weeks it has teeth, bones, and can make faces, you can even tell the sex of the fetus. Then at 24 weeks a baby can move by kicking, punching, stretching, etc. At what point can we really determine what is and isnt a living baby? In hospitals, if a human has a heartbeat and brain function, theyre technically alive, regardless of the rest of their bodys functionality. By this definition, a 6-week-old fetus is a living baby. Yet theres people who stretch out the argument up until the baby can move, or even born to finally determine its right to live. Under current proposed bills to defund Planned Parenthood, according to the National Rights to Life News in 2015, the funds that would have gone to Planned Parenthood would then be directed to community health centers (par. 7), that need more funding to provide lower cost general healthcare. Millions of tax-payers dollars would go back into the community, the way tax was meant to be used. In 2013, according to URGENT- Paul Ryan: GOP will defund Planned Parenthood in 2017, Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan promised that Republicans will try to re-distribute all government funding from Planned Parenthood, and this caused a 16-day shutdown in DC as President Obama and his Democratic following pushed to remove the bill (par. 1). In May 2017, as noted by Congressional health-care bill defunds Planned Parenthood, There was a temporary bill that blocked funds to Planned Parenthood, but has had no progress to become a law due to The American Civil Liberties Union threatening to take legal acti on, due to other points the act included (par. 2-3). The government shouldnt cover anything with tax-payers money that, according to Party Affiliation, updated in 2018, 28-67% (Gallup Inc. 1) of the population doesnt agree with, regardless of the issue. Tax money should go towards things that benefit the whole country. The whole county pays taxes, yet their money is going towards things that the whole country doesnt benefit, nor agree with. It doesnt seem moral to borderline force someone pay for something they do not agree with. In summary, it is unrealistic to outlaw abortion all together, and there are times where the procedure is used for the safety of the fetus and/or the mother, and not just for a rash form of birth control. A more realistic approach to limit the procedure is to limit or eliminate government funding from Planned Parenthood, make it a matter of private funding between the patient and the clinic. Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, and other public insurances should not cover the procedure. The funds that would normally cover abortions could be redistributed to general public healthcare.

I was aware that various tools such as SWOT analysis and PESTLE analysis are used in business as a routine matter, but this was the first time when I realized that it can also be used for understanding specific issues related to an individual. About the second workshop The main focus of the second workshop was related to explore and understand various concepts and theories related to research philosophies and paradigms. The educational resources included watching video and reading lecture material that was provided. As part of the study, we learned to how to choose the topic of research and prepare the relevant problem statement and research questions. I believe that this is most important part of academic writing as it provides direction of impending research(Morley-Warner, 2000). About the third workshop The third workshop offered extensive information about the important role played by literature review in any research paper. According to the instructor, the section of literature review not only information about the previous studies that has been conducted other researcher related to the problem statement, but also about the arguments and evidence that would be used in my research paper. The assignment I needed to complete was to search and find a wide-range of journal articles that I would use in my stated research project(Morley-Warner, 2000). About the fourth workshop The fifth workshop in this course was devoted to explore and understand different theories and practices on non-verbal Communication and its effects. As part of the educational material, we also needed to understand the types of both qualitative and quantitative research methodology for quality data-collection. We also discussed various questions such as when, how, why and where of choosing the methods. After discussing these topics, I felt that the problem statement I had submitted earlier required more refining and I modified it further with the new knowledge I gained during this week (Morley-Warner, 2000). About fifth, sixth, and seventh workshop Citations remain an essential part of the academic writing without which any academic paper is incomplete. It is a fact that every format of academic writing uses relevant material from previous research studies to argue the case or validate the research argument with strong evidence and it is polite to acknowledge the work of other researchers and scientists. The use of citations and bibliography also resolves the problem related to plagiarism(Morley-Warner, 2000). According to the topics I studied during these weeks, there are many styles of in-text citations and bibliography that are used to acknowledge the original sources in different academic disciplines. Some of the most common references style includes APA, MLA, Harvard, and Chicago among the others(Morley-Warner, 2000). Each citation style covers every aspect of an assignment such as title page, the format of the assignment such as the introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. In addition, it also includes the format of references or bibliography. Although I had done some kind of academic writing, I did not have much idea how to use in-text citations and bibliography and I believe that this was the most important thing that I learned during these weeks(Morley-Warner, 2000). About the eighth workshop After understanding the concepts related to various parts of an academic project, it is imperative that this week is devoted to understand how to organize the material for writing the required academic paper. For example, here, I learned how to use bibliographic software present in the word document as well as how to organize synthesize the literature review material in an academic project(Morley-Warner, 2000). About the ninth workshop The next step in this week was to present an oral presentation and for that purpose, the main focus of the study was to understand various techniques used by Barack Obama, the former American President. In addition to that, I also learned how to create an outline and oral presentation for my impending research project(Morley-Warner, 2000). About the tenth and final workshop The last and final workshop offered extensive information about how to check and re-check the final paper for any error related to style, grammar and some small but significant things that enhance the quality of the paper such as cohesiveness of the paper and smooth transition between different sections(Morley-Warner, 2000). Conclusion Academic writing remains an integral part of the university courses and contemporary research. The Go-Between LP Hartley Essay The Go-Between is a story of memories, told by a man in his sixties, looking back on his boyhood to the particular summer of 1900 on a visit to an aristocratic family in Norfolk, where a chain of events that took place, due to his naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½vetà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½, provoked the downfall of the main character, Leo Colston. His two-week stay in a grand house, among upper-class strangers scarred him, and contributed to the type of life that he has grown accustomed to ever since, that of a companionless and removed life. The prologue of The Go-Between serves several purposes, being an introduction to the character, his life and how he came to remember that summer in which his life was changed forever.The prologue opens with the cultured and educated bachelor in his sixties, Leo Colston, rummaging through a box of memories he once owned, taken from the year 1900, including the diary he kept for that year. The discovery of the diary and the other miscellaneous contents of the box; rusty magnet s, photo negatives, dried sea urchins, etc. awaken the events that took place of the summer of 1900 which had been concealed and forgotten deep within his mind, and the contents of the diary as what he, Leo Colston, believes encouraged him to become the lonely and detached person he is today, in 1953, when the novel is set.With the opening line of The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there a theme of the past and memory is instantly aroused. Even though the theme of the past is conjured up, there is a greater sense of distance, not only in the past but the way that the character himself is distanced by the choice of grammar, they instead of we and do instead of did. The opening line suggests Leos past to be of a foreign nature, meaning that his memories of his past have become foreign to him due to the fact that he buried them deep within his mind in order to forget the events that occurred the year of 1900. From the initiating line of The past is adifferently t here, the reader is immediately made aware that this is a story of the past, and suggests an alienation of events which may have occurred in the past, with which the main character, Leo Colston, has consequently attempted to block from his mind.After rifling through the contents of the recently discovered box, the older Leo discovers the diary, which contain the events that were to change him from then onwards. At first Leo doesnt recognise the diary, only the diary refused to disclose its identity p5, and he primarily believes that it was a present someone had brought (me) from abroad p5, again emphasising the theme of things being foreign to him because they have been mentally blocked and so when he is confronted with these things later on in life they are seemingly alien. The older Leo is stumped as to why he cannot remember the diary because he believes that he must have treasured it at the time due to its expensive appearance, and so therefore he is unwilling to open it because it questioned his memory and he disliked having it (his memory) prompted, p5. After some time attempting to remember what the diary held and stood for, he ventures at opening the combination lock, and as soon as he hears the click of the diary opening, it was as though the key in the lock of his memory turned, and the chain of events recorded in the diary were uncovered.As soon as these events are recognised, the elder Leo realises that without the recorded events occurring, he would be a very different person leading a very different life, not looking into the past but into the futureand not sitting alone, p 6. This recognition causes the reader to conceive and comprehend the importance and the scarring effect that these events had upon the younger Leo, at the age of 12. The reader does not yet know of something that could be so powerful to change someone so much and in so many ways, but is forewarned of the importance of the events that took place that summer were to be never for gotten, etched forever in his memory, by the slow release of information of how the character comes to remember the contents of the diary.In the act of opening the diary, he notes the signs of the Zodiac on the first page, recounting his fascination with them and their significance. Including the fact that it was also he year of 1900, the dawn of a new era, caused the young Leo to hold great expectations of the new century, hoping it to be the turning point of his otherwise hum-drum life, living with his widowed mother in a working-class lifestyle, and unfortunately the year 1900 was the pinnacle of his life, but changed it for the worse, not the better.The rapture of and attention paid to the signs of the Zodiac is heightened to the fact that the signs provided his young and impressionable imagination symbols with which to attach to people and reflect upon them. The older Leo remembers his particular intrigue of the sign of the Virgin the distinctly female figure in the galaxy, p7, which would later be recognised as Marian, his envy of the manly signs of the Archer and the Water-Carrier, and also his wanting to disassociate himself with his sign, Leo, because it was that of an animal, and therefore considered unmanly by him. Due to this dislike of being recognised as an animal, he searches for a more grown up zodiacal figure to model himself on, and is attracted to the signs of the Archer and the Water-carrier. The elderly Leo also remembers his enthusiasm of the coming about of the turn of the century, believing it to be the dawn of a Golden Age, p8, and a year that would change his life. To begin with, while Leo is still at boarding school, it is noticeable that his main fantasies were about being on the brink of a golden age seem to bear no relation to his real experience as a schoolboy. He is content to keep his imaginary world and his real life separate, which display to the reader that the events of the two-week stay at Brandham Hall must have scarred h im to a great degree considering the lonely life Leo has grown to lead.It is made apparent to the reader the Hartley must have chosen to set the novel in the year 1900 so to convey the idea that Leo believes himself to be living in a year which will change the rest of time, and is the beginning of the rest of his life. In the prologue it is clear that the novel will continue the theme of Leos youthful idealism and ultimately his disillusionment. The choice of a new century and particularly the twentieth century provides an ideal setting for Leos story.The older Leo recalls a specific time when he was a schoolboy at boarding school, the diary being one of his prides and joys, and would flaunt it about in front of the other boys. The diary was then stolen and the use of the word Vanquished within it caused him to be severely bullied by two boys, Jenkins and Strode. The older Leo reflects on this and accepts his pretentious use of a word such as vanquished at the time of being a school boy and continues to recount how he got revenge, by writing three curses in the diary with his own blood. When the curses came to light and reality, he was respected, afterwards I was quite a hero, p12, maybe even feared by the other schoolboys as Jenkins and Strode were both critically injured when the fell from the roof of a building.When Leo goes to look at the diary again, he sees assorted occurrences and affairs leading up to the two-week stay in Brandham Hall. After the noting of the name Brandham Hall, he reads through the list of guests that stayed there at the same time as him, and also the noting of the maximum temperature for each day, up until the 26th of July, the last entry in the month of July and the last entry in the diary, I did not have to turn the pages to know that they would be blank, p16. The emphasis on the fact that the older Leo knew that after that date he had not continued to use the diary causes the reader to realise that the two weeks in July was the ti me scale which within Leo became a changed person.The accentuation of the recordings of the maximum temperature for each day of Leos stay at Brandham Hall in 1900 introduces the authors use of pathetic fallacy to the reader thus enabling the author to use the weather to reflect the feelings and emotions of certain characters. By recording the temperature, after each day I had recorded the maximum temperature p16, it initiates to the reader that the summer of 1900 must have been an extremely hot one and so the heightened atmosphere of the heat would add to the building of ambience around specific characters.As the older Leo opens the diary, it is noted that the stirring of the memories of that summer was like the loosening of phlegm in an attack of bronchitis, which were waiting in anticipation to be freed from where that had been buried all these years. The older Leo then goes on to explain about how what happened at Brandham Hall was to change him forever as it was the first time i n his life that he felt he had been a significant figure within a certain company, and this significance had lead to disaster. This therefore conveys to the reader Leos fear of mattering, the saying pride comes before a fall comes to mind and so it appears that the older Leo has continued to hold the belief that pride is a sensation to be wary of as it can cause a greater damage. Because of the great pride Leo held as a young boy, he believes that it may have contributed to the enormous breakdown he suffered after the stay at Brandham Hall and so has chosen to blend into the background throughout his life. This is seemingly in order not to get so high on his horse so that he becomes blind to the things that are actually going on around him, suffering great consequences, as he once did as a boy.The idea of Leo attaching symbols of the zodiac to unfamiliar people in order to characterise them and create a more friendly feeling towards them is again emphasised in the later stages of th e prologue. The unknown guests also staying at Brandham Hall within the same two weeks as Leo, had, according to the younger Leo, zodiacal properties and proportions and were the substance of his dreams, p16. These descriptions furtherly stress Leos habit of putting people on pedestals, having a fixed image of them in his mind, which they may not actually fulfil, remaining in awe of them believing that they were above him. It is clear to the reader that Leo idealised the guests staying at Brandham Hall, relating them to the signs of the zodiac in order for them to become more familiar and to gain a further understanding of them.The imaginary conversation that the older Leo has with his younger self follows swiftly on, and is a good example of the distinctness between the two Leos, what the one was like before the events that occurred at Brandham Hall and what the other has become due to the events that occurred, showing a distance between them. When Leo, as an old man, expects the y ounger Leo to question why his life has ended up as it has after all that he did in his first twelve years in order to have a greater life, the older Leo replies that it was the younger Leos fault for becoming too big-headed. Again the line of pride coming before a fall is accentuated as the older Leo explains quite simply you flew too near to the sun and got scorched, p 17. This being a reference to Icharus of Greek Mythology who had winged sandals, became too big headed and flew too near to the sun, melting the glue on the wings and thus falling to his death. This cindery creature is what you made me, p 17, acts as a justification to the younger Leo as to why the older Leo has become what he has become, believing that it was the breakdown he suffered after staying at Brandham Hall from which he never recovered. The older Leo concludes that it was his younger selfs too high expectations of the new century that added to his downfall, as they were expectations that could never be rea ched.As the conversation between the two very different Leos continues, the older Leo argues that even though the Maudsleys, Ted, Marian or Hugh did him wrong, he insisted on looking at them as angels, even if they were fallen angels, p 17. This proves that as the younger version of Leo had idealised these people, almost viewed them as icons, he could not plant any blame for what followed onto them, he couldnt allow the perfected images he had of them in his head to be tarnished, so accepted the blame himself. Even over fifty years later, it is made apparent to the reader that it obviously still bothers Leo, showing that he hasnt been able to fully bury the memories and cannot, even though he wants to, put it behind him. The last line of the conversation between the two contrasting Leos, try now, try now, it isnt too late p 18, is an obvious desperate plea for closure of the subject by the older Leo in order to regain some normality to his life.The next paragraph tells the reader of how the voice of the younger Leo had haunted Leo as an older, more mature man, and that it had only confirmed his suspicions that he could no longer bury his memories, but had to confront them head on. The next stage brings the reader back to reality, the clock struck twelve p 18, sets the scene again, back to where Leo had been rifling through his old belongings. The last word of the prologue, LEO, p18, furtherly accentuates his fascination with the zodiac as a boy and also his mild egotism at this age, for using his name as the code to the lock.In conclusion to what the prologue does for a reader in preparing them for the novel, is that in the way in which it is written, including intriguing flashbacks, memories and talk of the past, the author quickly has enraptured the readers attention into finding out what could have emotionally scarred the main character Leo, so much so, that it in return ended up ruining his life.

Such qualities include honor, courtesy, courage, justice, and willing to assist those in need. If one is chivalrous in character, then one is a gentleman and noble in his good deeds. He would in no manner hesitate to serve others and serve his God. This is evident as Honore de Balzac puts it: â€Å"the motto of chivalry is also the motto of wisdom; to serve all, but love only one. † Chivalry, besides its original usage as â€Å"calvary,† can truly only be delineated in only one way, which is to refer to a virtuous code of conduct. There isn’t any negative connotations to the word either, unless somebody called a fellow thane chivalrous in Old Anglo-Saxon times! Other than that, the only emotional association with the word is generally positive. This noble idea of conduct is constituted of several virtues in spite of the narrow usage of the word. So, how did chivalry come into existence? Journey to the medieval times and you will discover that chivalry was once an existential characteristic of every man sworn into nobility or born into it. These men were knights. Medieval knights battled horseback and practiced outstanding gallantry. Knights were always calvary in battle, and exhibited righteous morals. A group of knights was actually called â€Å"the chivalry† of the militia. They were excelled in sword craft nearly comparable to their high level of graciousness, and could ride a horse well-nigh to the speed of which they are willing to assist a damsel in distress. Chivalry came to be known as the demeanor of an ideal knight, rather than simply a group of knights. As Chaucer puts it in Canterbury Tales, an ideal knight loved chivalry, truth and honor, freedom and courtesy; a very gentle, perfect knight. † Whatever happened to chivalry? Certain writers may say chivalry is dead, or it might just have a bad case of the flu. As long as wrongs are still righted, chivalry will survive. Chivalry cannot and will never die out. It may become exponentially less evident everyday, but underlying all the rudeness and discourtesy, chivalry is there. Chivalry does indeed need to be implemented more and more into society. Every single man’s major desire should be to act magnanimously and reveal a generous and noble state of mind. If every man were to be genuinely chivalrous then hardly would there ever be any cheating, debt, adultery, stealing, or even bad attitudes. Each and every man would be true in their religion, honest, courteous, and would have a burning passion to do what is right. Think of that chivalry based utopian society. A world where people were more worried about humbling themselves rather than raising themselves up would be phenomenal. Modern chivalry should predominate like it did with Sir Lancelot around Queen Guinevere. Advantages of Inclusion for Disabled Children There are many advantages for children with disabilities, to be placed in a regular classroom setting. First of all, children are spared the effects of being separate and segregated. Sometimes, segregated education can provide negative effects, such as labeling (Wolery, M. and Wilbers, J., 1994). Labeling of a disabled child can be held over their head throughout their education. Also, being separated can make other children have negative attitudes towards them due to them being separated so drastically. Another advantage of inclusion is the disabled child has a competent model to follow. This way the disabled child can learn new adaptive skills. They get the opportunity to learn how to use their existing skills through imitation. Also, they are provided with opportunities to learn more realistic life experiences that prepare them to live in the community. Most importantly, they get the opportunity to develop friendships with typically developing peers (Wolery, M. and Wilber s, J., 1994). Mona Hajjar Halaby, an educator at Park Day School in Oakland states, "The thing that students struggle with most is how to make a friend. How to keep a friend. How to stand up to a friend and how to be a good ally." With Inclusion, disabled children get the opportunity to learn how to do those four things. These are some of the positive effects of inclusion for a disabled child, but in the end it is really up to the disabled child to make the best of his/her schooling, regardless of the circumstances. From the book â€Å"Collective Perspectives on Issues Affecting Learning Disabilities,† it shows that in inclusion the disabled child has many responsibilities. Living Story Essay

The development of Georgetown has attracted many tourists flocking here to scan the place. However, the increased new openings of shop lots have given the town a new lease of life in addition to its tonnes of heritage buildings. By chance Wu Han Ren, Ru Zhi Xing and Lee Wu Xin talked about the town and what was missing from it. That brought 14 Living Story back to life, to showcase the day-to-day living of Old Georgetown. The enclave also gave the duo an idea that Penang could actually become some place like that. â€Å"Along the road in many tourist attractions in other countries, we would see stalls selling local delicacies and souvenirs which make the place all the more vibrant. â€Å"However, tourists visiting Penang will only be greeted by rows of listless shophouses, warehouses and empty residences, many of which are uninhabited and locked. † Living museum It was August 2009 when Wu, Ru and Lee decided to set up a living museum in town. They had looked at many different locations and finally decided on the shophouse beside Seh Tek Tong Cheah Kongsi on Armenian Street. â€Å"The tenancy contract of the house was about to expire when we contacted the owner. We picked the house because it exuded the feelings of an old building. â€Å"It has been found that the house could have been built in the 1850s and is at least 150 years old today! † Wu said the house was formerly used to accommodate foreign workers. Despite its location in the heart of Old Georgetown, the house has never been put to proper use. Since the original house was quite shabby, they requested the owner to do some renovation and they later tore down the room partitions to make the old house more spacious. Day-to-day living The living museum is divided into three parts where the front part of ground floor is used for the sale of souvenirs, day-to-day items and handcrafts. The rear part of the house has been specifically designed for the display of artistic exhibits. Since old houses in Penang were designed largely in Chinese style and in particular Shanghainese style, many Shanghainese memorabilia could still be found in these houses. Wu hopes to recreate the first floor of the house into a museum showcasing the day-to-day living of Old Penang by next year so that tourists could get a better understanding of life in Old Penang. In order to promote reuse and recycling, all the furniture inside the house have either been donated by people or picked up by them. Wu admitted that local tourists are not too keen to buy the souvenirs and handicrafts as they are more interested in the furnishings and designs of the building. Outline and Evaluate Milgram’s concept of â€Å"agentic shift†. Following results of his world famous obedience studies, Milgram developed his own theory of why people obey a malevolent authority – â€Å"agentic shift†. Milgram findings led him to believe a person can be in one of two psychological state at any particular time, and the â€Å"agentic shift† is what causes ordinary people to follow orders because they believed the experimenter has a legitimate authority. Milgram believed people acted without thinking, irrespective of their own beliefs - the participants were obliged to do as the experimenter said because of the experimenters â€Å"authority†.
